Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile
Okay, before we begin, just like to tell you guys, welcome to my movie review site call Movie Review Macha!, I know that I'm not popular and you guys being a great supporter for me, thank you so much, but I would like to know in what language you guys would love me to write movie review? English or Malay? I can tell for sure that my English is not good.. but let me just try it with this one movie titled 'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile' .
'Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile', a movie about Ted Bundy, one of the famous serial killer in the world. The main character, Ted Bundy played by Zac Efron was convicted for crime that supposedly the movie played as - not the crime that he committed. Through out the film, we learned how the evidences presented in the court have it's flaws and almost favored to Ted Bundy him self. But of course given the fact and history we know that Ted Bundy is the serial killer.
Firstly I would like to talk about the purpose of this movie, as all of us know, this movie is not a mystery movie, because obviously we know Ted Bundy is the killer, the movie is supposed to be something that tell story about Ted Bundy's girlfriend, Elizabeth side of story, derived from the book titled 'The Phantom Prince: My Life With Ted Bundy'. Now I will say it's entertaining to see Zac Efron as Ted Bundy, and how convincing it is about his acting, but unfortunately the movie does not deal the right purpose that the movie as such genre should, the PURPOSEFUL SIDE OF STORY.
Now let's be honest, this film felt like it was made for nothing at all, hovering in an empty space, exist but for no purpose at all. This being said, because the whole plot of the movie was arranged into a form of the film wanting you to believe that Ted Bundy is innocent, of course they did revealed his confession, but what with the mystery build up? too much focus built on that until the film it self forgot the true essence of this sort of genre, which is the unknown story from Ted Bundy side. Of course you can argue that the movie is actually from his 'girlfriend' perspective but again.. "WE ALREADY KNOW Ted Bundy is the KILLER", so what is the purpose of this movie again?
Speaking of his girlfriend perspective, played by Lily Collins, she did well as Elizabeth I will say that, unfortunately she didn't even served major purpose in this whole film! the true two main character need to and should be Ted and Carole Ann, as they served better role in this movie. Yes Lily Collins role served as the motive, or you can call cause and effect, but that doesn't mean that she need to be the major focus of the movie, even if they try to put her as the major focus, they could at least balance it better than just give more focus on Ted.
One of the attractive side of this movie is the courts scenes, yes people would like to see that, how Ted performed during the courts and such, this is why I will say this film doesn't understand it's true focus, is it Ted? or is it Elizabeth?
After watching this movie, I realised everything that had happened in the movie, have no pay off to my satisfaction, and I bet most would probably think so too. I just wish that the movie do served better purpose of it's genre than just throw things that people already know.
Love the story, but not the application done!
